Training Teachers for Today's Technology Aston Swann launches ECDL for Educators version 4
Driving teacher’s ICT skills into the 21st century, Aston Swann has launched Version 4 of its European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) for Educators Courseware. The ECDL for Educators courseware is the first Education programme to meet the new international ECDL version 4 syllabus. Click here for information on ECDL V4.0 syllabus
The ECDL version 4 syllabus embraces the security issues involved in using the Internet in today’s society and reflects many other new software developments. The ECDL for Educators Courseware V4 enables teachers and teaching assistants to train for the ECDL qualification in context with their role, developing core ICT skills that allow them to improve efficiency and reduce their workload in line with the UK’s Workforce Remodelling initiative. Debbie Skyrme, Education Programme Developer, Aston Swann, said, “Teachers who have followed the ECDL for Educators courseware now use the Information and Communication module to effectively gather classroom resources, thus saving time on lesson planning. They use the Spreadsheet module to collate and chart data from science experiments; the Database module gives them the skills needed to plan and design a Lending Library with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils; Mailmerge is used in the Wordprocessing module to manage a parents evening event and the Presentation module to display an animated screen show. It is wonderful to see the teachers’ confidence as well as competence in the technology.”
Allowing for a teacher’s hectic schedule, the training programme is now available via a Virtual Learning Environment and can also be delivered face to face, as self-study or as a combination. The ECDL for Educators version 4 courseware comprises seven modules designed for application in schools:
- Concepts of Information Technology – understand the technologies available in school
- Using the Computer and Managing Files – save files, and find them again!
- Word Processing - to manage classroom tasks, activities and lesson plans
- Spreadsheets – to collate, sort and chart data
- Database - create and monitor classroom lists, forms and reports
- Presentation - as a visual interactive learning tool
- Information and Communication – search effectively for online classroom resources and communicate by e-mail.
