ECDL for Students launches accessibility version
ECDL for Students courseware now accessible to learners with sight impairment
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) courseware authors, Aston Swann have partnered with Dolphin Computer Access Limited, the UK specialist software development company, to announce joint compatibility of their two products. Learners with vision impairment can now access the unique ECDL for Students courseware (in context for 14 to 19 years) used in hundreds of schools both in the UK and overseas.
Debbie Skyrme, Education Programme Developer, Aston Swann, says, “Learning materials must do more than just meet the ECDL syllabus, they must put a context and a reason for learning to the functionality” “Our accredited ECDL for Students courseware is an award-winning learning programme written specifically for schools from a task based perspective. Students create documents that are engaging and useful to them whilst seamlessly meeting the ECDL syllabus and much of the ICT Programme of Study – another distinctive benefit of the ECDL for Students courseware. We are delighted that in meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), schools are now able to benefit from our partnership with Dolphin and provide access to the ECDL for Students courseware for those learners needing screen reader support.”
Dolphin’s latest SuperNova (version 6.50) access software now incorporates the most advanced levels of accessibility for the ECDL for Students learning programme, vastly enhancing the chances of success for all students with a visual impairment. The ECDL qualification is considered to be the benchmark of IT skills required by many employers and is recognised in over 130 countries. Debbie Skyrme continues; “Accessibility for learners with special needs has always been a key consideration for Aston Swann. Now visually impaired students and fully sighted students are able to follow the ECDL for Students courseware side by side. We are proud to have Dolphin as a key partner.” Steve Bennett, Dolphin’s Sales Director says; “We are always very keen to work with key partners to deliver accessible solutions. Now everyone has an equal opportunity to excel with the ECDL for Students courseware, irrespective of their level of sight.”
