Curriculum Online accreditation for ECDL for Educators

ICT training programme achieves Curriculum Online accreditation

The ICT teacher training courseware, which made headlines when it was launched due to its education-specific content, has now achieved Curriculum Online accreditation. ECDL for Education Courseware from Aston Swann can now be purchased with eLearning Credits (eLCs) enabling pupils as well as teachers to work towards the internationally recognised ECDL qualification.

According to the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), there are still £83 million of eLCs that need to be spent before the end of August 2004. Now that Aston Swann has been accredited as a Curriculum Online registered retailer, teachers will be able to spend eLCs on ICT training which will enable them to feel confident in not only teaching ICT in the classroom but in teaching the ECDL for Education Courseware to their pupils.

Debbie Skyrme, Education Programme Developer, Aston Swann, commented, “We are delighted to have been awarded Curriculum Online accreditation, which will give teachers the opportunity to spend their funding on an ICT training programme. We firmly believe that teacher skills lead to pupil skills, and schools can now invest in ICT training through ECDL for Education Courseware for their teachers and pupils.”

ECDL for Education Courseware comprises seven modules with a classroom focus providing teachers with the confidence to take ICT into their lessons. The courseware also has additional Pupil Projects that allows teachers to take the programme into the classroom for their students in a context that is relevant to them. Creating lesson plans using a word processor, managing classroom data using a spreadsheet and searching the Internet for classroom resources are just a few of the very practical skills that can be acquired. Once the teacher feels competent with ICT they can then deliver the ECDL for Education Courseware to their pupils.
