What are the benefits for students of ECDL over GCSE IT?
Whether offered as an alternative or a replacement to GCSE IT, the benefits to all students are in the flexibility of the programme and the currency of the ECDL qualification itself in employers' eyes:
Students gain unit accreditation Students can build units to achieve a recognised award Modules may be tested in any order and at any time (learn it, test it, move onto the next module) The BCS IT User Level 1 Certificate comprises ECDL modules 1, 2 and 7 - it attracts 6.3 performance indicator points The BCS IT User Level 2 Certificate comprises the ECDL with one additional multiple choice module, Unit E - it attracts 46 points (the same as a GCSE grade A-C) The ECDL qualification is transferable i.e. students have three years from the date of their first test to complete the qualification. Example - start BCS IT User Level 1 in years 10 and/or 11 and complete at Sixth Form or with your employer. Ideal enrichment activity
